OrangeGate Plaza

5405-5555 Garden Grove Boulevard, Westminster, CA

size: 210,000 SF

type: Office Complex

OrangeGate Plaza is a 210,000 SF office complex located at the intersection of the San Diego (I-405) and Garden Grove (State Highway 22) Freeways in the City of Westminster, CA. It contains two 3-story buildings and two 6-story buildings, all with excellent visibility from and access to the two freeways, enhancing the marketability of the project. The complex is served by more than 700 parking spaces, and include spaces located directly under the buildings as well as in a separate parking structure.  This was Glenn Erikson, PhD, AIA’s first project as the Architect-of-Record, while the engineer/contractor/developer was Blaise Subbiondo & Associates.  Construction included the first use in the US of bonded post-tensioned spandrel beams and floor slabs in mid-rise building construction.  The project was built in four phases, with a site and phasing plan that allowed for the relocation of extensive overlapping utilities that had divided the site and  rendered it virtually impossible to develop. The complex has since been renamed Avalon Center.
